I have lived in the small town of Urmston, in North West Manchester for all of my life and for most of the time I have lived here, it has been a bustling Market town, loved and used by it’s residents.
It was true to say though, that until recently, the heart of the town, was lost, when The Trafford Centre, one of Europe’s biggest shopping malls opened, in 1997. Literally a 10 minute drive away, we have practically every type of shop you can think of selling any type of product your heart desires and it was really hard for the small shop owners of Urmston to compete.
The tide is turning though and within the last year, we have seen Urmston rise again, thanks mainly to a new influx of young trendy residents, lured possibly by the proximity of media City, or perhaps the great schools, green parks and tree lined streets or the general bonhomie of the community spirit?
One of the new shops, Mrs M’s vintage,is the talk of the town and has seen stock fly out as quickly as it flies in, thanks to the owner, Helen’s well honed eye, for retro, kitsch and vintage, fair prices and great marketing skills. Her Facebook page, keeps you abreast of the new stock as soon as it hits the shop floor.
Mrs M is constantly scouring the country and further afield for interesting and unusual items and will look out for anything in particular you are trying to find. Pop in and have a chat and I dare you to come out empty handed!
