Whilst on a trip to some of our favourite haunts for vintage and antique finds, we stumbled across The Bear shop and Cafe in Todmorden and called in for a coffee and cake.

This shop has been here for many years apparently, but some how we have never noticed it before, not sure how, as it is stunning, but any way we have found it now. The shops facade is a beautiful old Victorian Co-operative which has been fully restored to its former glory and on entering you are greeted by wonderful displays of organic and locally sourced fresh produce, shelves upon shelves of vegetarian produce, cleaning and beauty products, fresh cut flowers and locally brewed ales. It is a mini emporium of all the best organic and vegetarian products Lancashire has to offer.

Climbing up the stunning original Victorian Stairs, will take you to The Bear Cafe which is fully licensed and sells a mouth watering range of home cooked vegetarian food. The ethos of the Bear is that 80% of their menu is made from ingredients locally sourced and produced and where possible, organic.  They are involved with the Incredible Edible Todmorden project, which inspired them to buy their own poly tunnel and now Bear grown produce also appears in their dishes.

The coffee and gluten free chocolate chip muffin were delicious by the way and I will definitely be calling in for lunch next time I’m in the area.
