Burton Road in Didsbury is a great shopping destination if you are looking for interesting gifts, some where good to eat or a something different to wear, other than what the High Street can offer.
One of the jewels in the crown of Burton Road is David Gavin Design, run for the last few years by Matt Johnson. Matt has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to interiors, having worked for many years for Conran and Mulberry and his exquisite taste for design is apparent as soon as you walk into his shop.
As well as providing a full design service, you can also order wallpaper and fabrics from the many sample books, have a piece of existing furniture re-upholstered or buy an interesting piece of furniture or a small gift. Matt’s background at Mulberry involved him buying props for their stores and he continues to source interesting pieces for his own business. When I visited a few weeks back he had some stunning art deco and 1950’s pieces and a beautiful coloured Murano glass chandelier.
The shop window featuring Penguin book wallpaper and a vintage 1970’s Deco inspired side table.
A stunning 1950’s desk which was in store when I visited. Drool!
So many sample books of wallpaper and fabric, you will be spoilt for choice.
Some of the small gifts on offer, include vintage style dressing table essentials and soaps by Avoca.
Vintage plates hand painted with bugs and butterflies, beautiful and individual.
