This week the kids break up for half term and as always Halloween falls over half term, which with no school the next day, leaves little excuse for us mums to say no to a party.
Luckily this year, I’ve been let off the hook and my friend Bev is the party host, but my daughter Amber is already thinking about fancy dress outfits and who or what to go as.
After seeing this picture of Kate Moss and Jamie Hince dressed as Morticia and Gomez Adams, she think she’s going to go for that. It looks suitably spooky but still stylish and more crucially relatively easy to pull off, which is a relief to me as I’ll be the one left to create the vision.
The key to any successful halloween costume, is the make up and if you’re shopping in The Trafford Centre over half term week and you have a party to go to, make sure you make a booking with Smashbox, based in Boots, who are doing four days of free make up workshops and halloween make up for the big day. Bumble & Bumble hair products also have their experts on hand for a free hair makeover, and they have lots of wash out colours so you can have a complete transformation without the risk of damaging your hair with some permanent colour, so Ms Barlow shall go to the ball.
If you’re in a rush to get to your party and want an uber easy option, these masks are pretty foxy, from Topshop?
My daughter, Amber, is almost 12 but after seeing these beautiful dressing up costumes by H&M for Unicef, I wish she was still a little girl. I love the Marie Antoinette costume, which is accessorised with a white Marie Antoinette hairpiece, amazing! The quality and range of these costumes, will ensure they are still going strong in the dressing up box long after Halloween.
If you want to get in the spirit(no pun intended!) of the evening and you’re looking for something spooky but glamorous, Etsy is the site for a one stop shop. Some of the jewellery & clothing, I’ve found is below, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. It really is the go to site for something special for any occasion.
Beautiful temporary tatoo eyelashes which are now in my Etsy shopping basket!
If you are the host of the party this year, there are loads of spooky decorations in the shops but these are just some of the ones that have caught my eye. I especially like the stickers which are easy to apply to any surface without having to pin anything to your existing decor & they can be used to make glasses and jugs of juice look suitably spooky.

I love these upcycled pumpkin decorations made from recycled books
