One of the biggest home interior trends for Spring 2014, and now landing in all the stores & online retailers websites is Global design, predominately bold Asian influences.
Designers are constantly inspired by the rich colours and textures of the far East and this season those influences are mixed with hammered metals, glass lighting and jewel coloured fabrics, cushions & rugs.
I love the New york apartment of textile designer, John Robshaw, featured in Elle Decor magazine, which he has decorated throughout with a myriad of colour and textiles from his travels. The strong blues used on many of the walls throughout his home, frame his collections beautifully. Strong tones on walls will be one of the strongest influences of this trend that will filter down and encourage us all to be braver with colour.
Obviously this bold look is not for everyone but, touches of the Far East can bring an opulent feel to a room and if a strong wall colour is not something you could live with, the dark woods, patterned rugs and metallic accessories work just as well with a neutral background, as these images below show, which I styled for a recent press launch.
OK this mustard wall is quite a strong colour but how cosy does it make this bedroom?
