I have fallen in love with a house and it’s for sale. I don’t say this lightly, as I adore my own home and can’t imagine living any where else, well until yesterday that is when I spied an amazing mid 20th Century architect designed house for sale.
Fortunately for the rest of the family, the house is out of budget and out of our area but if I could, I would buy it in a heart beat.
I’ve been interested in mid 20th century architecture since I researched Eichler at university whilst studying for my Interior design degree.
Eichler was known throughout the states as the man responsible for bringing modern architecture to the masses, although the houses he designed with his bank of architects were only affordable to the middle classes. His style became known as Californian modern or ranch style and spawned many imitations and inspired many architects working in the UK.

The house of my dreams is called Farnley Hey and can be viewed on The Modern House. It echoes all the hall marks of Californian modern style, truly bringing the outside in, with it’s stunning location and views. It’s given me my excuse to buy a lottery ticket this week!
Farnley Hey~ Wowzer!
