Blog On 2014

It was with trepidation that I arrived at Blog On 2014, the bloggers convention held at Manchester’s Science & Industry Museum on Sunday.

Having never been to an event such as this before, my head was full of negative thoughts “Would I know anybody?” “Would everybody know each other?” “Nobody will be interested in my blog” and “I don’t know anything about blogging apart from write a post and publish it.”

I needn’t have worried, I had the best day, everybody was lovely, very friendly and informative.

The first session I attended was the photography workshop. Although I am a professional stylist and work in the photography industry for a living, I was so impressed by the tips for cheap and effective props and backgrounds shared by CapturebyLucy and her top tip on enhancing light source. Who knew a silver paper covered cake board could make such a brilliant light reflector?

Invaluable techno info was shared by photography blogger HPMcQ and thanks to her I am now app mad! For those who couldn’t make the talk check out Snapseed, Afterlight and A beautiful mess for some amazing tools.

After a quick coffee and a chat with my new friend Amanda of Thisluxlife, we were back into the social networking workshop where Gemma of Helloit’sGemma, advised me about the pros of list making on Twitter and Rebecca of Here Come The Girls talked about the power of Pinterest. You might notice my pins have increased 10 fold since Sunday?

After a lovely lunch, Gluten Free sandwiches thanks very much Laura, we were back into the final workshop with our other new friend Becki of Events Northern Ltd

Jane (Northernmum) Helen (Actuallymummy) and Penny (Areresidence) talked about the importance of creative writing, integrity in what you write and the power of the written word. As a visual person, I tend to believe that a beautiful image doesn’t harm either, but hey who am I to disagree with these girls, their thousands of followers and many sponsorships are testament to their talent, Blog on ladies!

Here’s to next years event but I think I might take the train next time and enjoy some of the hospitality provided by Jacobs Creek!

It shows it's good to face your fears and everybody is just the same underneath. Glad you had a great day and I loved your blog post too. Have a good (if slightly wet!) weekend 🙂

I had a little play with snapseed last night which seems really easy to use, which is always a plus for me. Going to have a look at the text features on "A beautiful mess" as that will be a great tool for my design boards. Have a good weekend 🙂
