A Beautiful Victorian Arts and Crafts House

I often blog about other peoples homes that have inspired me and we all, I’m sure you agree, love looking at the pictures and getting home envy?

The house I am going to reveal below though is extra special and more importantly it’s for sale at a snip of a price. It’s owners are Martyn, a set builder in the photography and TV industry and all round clever creative man, and his wife Heather a professional photographer.

They have been the custodians of this beautiful house for 27 years and are reluctantly selling it to down size. They bought it from a couple of architects, who were eager for somebody to own it, who loved and appreciated it and Martyn & Heather are looking for the same qualities from their buyer. They are so passionate about their house, that they have not just gone down the usual route of using an estate agent, although you can view through Reeds Rains Estate Agents, but are hoping that through friends and colleagues, in the creative industries, blogging, tweeting and instagramming their house, they will find the rightful new owner.

The house was built in 1897 during the Arts and crafts movement and  has many, many original features, from copper canopied fireplaces to original mosaic tiled floors and hand stamped doors, stained glass windows, sweeping staircases and an organic garden, lovingly tended to by Martin for 25 years.

It’s located in Darwen, a 45 minute commute to Manchester or Salford Media City by train and would be perfect for a creative family, with it’s 4 bedrooms, studio space in the attic and 2 bathrooms. Let the pictures do the talking.

The asking price is an unbelievable £300,000 and if you are genuinely interested you can send a message to Martyn on his instagram account or email me & I will forward any messages to Martyn & Heather. My email address is on my web page under contact details.

If I could drag my children away from their social lives and relocate, this would be my dream house, but I can’t sadly, so I genuinely hope for Martyn & Heather and for the future of IvyDene House that the right person will become the future custodians for the next part of the history of this beautiful home.
